What I Wore Wednesday: Skirt as a Dress

This could also be called the "everything for $1 or less" edition. Do you agree that it's easier to be thrifty in the summer than the winter? Anyway, for today's What I Wore Wednesday, I'm wearing a skirt as a dress.

It's REALLY easy to turn a skirt into a dress. Just hike it up and belt it. It makes for the perfect quick dress for a 96 degree summer day.

I did end up sewing darts in the bust of this one, but that's not always necessary, especially if you're going to belt it anyway. If you've been following me since the very beginning of Simply Step Back (just under a year ago), you might vaguely remember this skirt-to-dress how-to (of sorts). Today I opted not to wear the big white belt that I made for it; that just made it look too much like a party dress for a regular day.

I'm wearing:
Polka dot skirt-as-a-dress: Thrifted, 75 cents
Blue belt: Thrifted by a friend
Shoes: Rummage Sale, $1

  1. I have seen so many people do this, but have never tried it myself. You really pulled it off!

I am going to have to look and see if I have something in my closet to try this with. Double duty with the wardrobe :)

  6. I've always thought about doing this, but I'm not a fan of strapless dresses. It looks great though! I suppose I could just add straps to make it a dress :)

  9. Awesome!! I just got a few skirts and came across this idea! Then had to google it to see if anyone else had lol. I'm up in Canada and as the weather's starting to turn it's hard to resisit shopping for and creating new summer outfits :)

I also LOVE that you are so thrifty! People seam to point their noses up and look down at thrift stores but you can get so much for so little. And can usually suport a good cause too. Good on you! I got into thrift shops a few years ago after I started volunteering at some local stores- which is a wonderful way to contibute and shop at the same time!

Keep it up :) Your newest follower.
