Etched Glass Beer Mugs

I've seen some great tutorials for glass etching using Armor Etch (check out How About Orange and Young House Love for my two favorites), and thought it'd be a great Christmas gift idea. I bought some Roadhouse Beer Mugs, planning to personalize them for my dad for Christmas...and I did.

The project was much harder than I'd figured though! I followed Young House Love's advice and used painter's tape to make my stencil with an Exacto knife. I had a terrible time getting crisp lines, and consequently, my etching isn't very straight and crisp either. I've heard that contact paper is easier to use- or, of course, you could buy the actual stencil material that's sold near the Armor Etch. Regardless, my dad seems to like them, especially chilling them in the freezer for ice-cold beer.

Emily over at the cute octopus coincidentally posted a glass etching tutorial today, too!

  8. They look great! I use contact paper when I etch anything. You just have to ensure you press down the edges well because you may get a little bleeding.
Thanks so much for linking up!

  9. Glass etching is usually so easy and really yields amazing results. Whenever I've used that technique to create a gift the receipient is always very impressed. Love your mugs and even though things didn't go smoothly for you, I know your dad will love drinking out of it. I guess having a Cricut to cut out the letters for me really cuts down on the hassle. Next time I do glass etching I'll have to make sure I appreciate the time saving aspects of it more! I use contact paper and a bone folder to make sure it's stuck on really good.

Thank you for joining us at A Crafty Soiree. I love being inspired by the participants. I hope you'll come back next week too, we love to see familiar faces!

  13. Actually if I take a look at it, it seems so easy to do this craft "etched glass" but I don't know if it's really hard. Thanks for allowing me here!
