Thrift stores seem to have more oddly-patterned ties than anything else. They're usually very inexpensive, completely outdated, and fairly unwearable. That doesn't mean they're unusable! I really like the idea of repurposing a men's tie into a wristlet.
If you're interested in making one like this, a tutorial is available here at The Reuser's Guide to Green Living (Update: Many readers have informed me that this tutorial is no longer available).
If you don't want to make your own, Tearful Touch sells these similar wristlets on Etsy:
Have you made one? Leave a link in the comments; I'd love to see!
Love this idea, it looks so easy to make. I am your newest GFC follower from Welcome Wednesday and hope you will swing by my blog at kittycrochettwo.blogspot.com when you get a chance. Have a fantastic week!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I found this. I just finished moving my sewing room and discovered a BUNCH of ties! Now I've got something to do with them. Thanks!!

ReplyDeleteThanks SEW much Sarah for featuring my Recycled Necktie Wristlet on your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate everyone's interest in obtaining the instructions to make my wristlets, however, each one is made freehand without the use of patterns or instructions. If you'd like to purchase one of my wristlets or would like me to create one from your own necktie, please contact me at TearfulTouch.etsy.com
Cute but your link to the tut is broken
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone so adamant about directions? You can tell how to make it by looking at it. As far as Tearful touch not following a pattern or instructions, I am sure she uses basic principals like "make the folds of the tie parallel by ripping the seam and re folding", or "tack on a snap". harldy being able to find the tutorial for this is sillier than everyone who won't make their own because they do not have step by step instructions. I challenge everyone who wants to make this, to do so without instructions, you can do it! You can!
