Tied Crop Top from a Button-Down Shirt

Crop tops are back in, right?

Make this top from any button down that's any size. I followed this tutorial from Chictopia. It's easy to follow, and her styling is great, too! This is a quick summer top that you can make in an hour- even less if you don't use a serger (that keeps coming unthreaded). I bought this top at the thrift store a while ago, ironically because I liked the length. I expected to just take in the sides, but I ended up chopping off a lot more than that.

I'm still a little unsure of the whole crop top trend. Too much association with Britney Spears in the 1990s, maybe. I originally paired this with a pair of red skinny hiphugger jeans, which was a mistake. My boyfriend said "That shirt's kind of trashy, I think...You can tell it's trashy because it's got that tie in the front."

I don't think it was the tie that was trashy (at least I hope not)...I think this trend just requires a little bit of more thoughtful styling.

What's your verdict on crop tops? In, or out? Anybody have styling tips? Leave a comment and let me know!

  1. I think it's super cute! I'm really liking tied shirts when they are paired with a skirt or pants with a higher waist so not too much skin is showing. It looks great with this skirt!
